Everywhere I go in Bali I
frequently come across many different styles of Bali paintings. The
Balinese people are very talented and creative with their hands. The paintings they create is just one of many examples of their artistic skills.
Sometimes I will walk down a street and see an artist sitting on the side of the road working on a new painting. At the same time he will have some of his other completed paintings on display for people to purchase.
I also found it quite interesting to see that the Bali paintings sometimes have personality coupled with a modern influence. I have taken many different photos of the paintings from various different areas of Bali that are displayed below.
These pictures above are just a small portion of the many photos I have taken of the Bali paintings. The pictures I have added here though are an example of the different styles and talent the Balinese people have. Personally I am not a painter, but I can see how skilled they would have to be to be capable of creating paintings like this.
There seems to be a great deal of diversity in their style of painting. I notice they often showcase the Balinese culture. Also many of the Bali paintings highlight the beauty of the island. This is demonstrated by the nature, beaches and other common attractions that are incorporated into their paintings.
For many of the Balinese people, their art is a way of life and it's a means for supporting their families. I spoke to several of the different artists in their stores. I have been told that they can create one of these paintings within a few hours whereas other can take days or even a few weeks. Other artists told me they might be working on several different projects at one time.
All in all though after speaking with the artists I can tell how passionate and dedicated they at their craft. Paintings can be found in many places around Bali. One of the most common places to see some of these amazing paintings are at the Kuta Art Markets.
At the Kuta Art Markets they not only sell paintings, but also various other different styles of art. There is also lots of other stores such as clothing and souvenir stores too. I found that the paintings in the Kuta area often have a different feel to those that you might find in Ubud.
This is probably due to the influence surrounding different areas of Bali. For example Kuta is probably one of the most common tourist areas in Bali. There is lots of modern western influence around Kuta. That being said lots of the paintings do have a modern western influence in them.
On the other hand when I go up to Ubud where it's further away from more common tourist areas, I am more likely to see paintings that represent the nature and culture of Bali. The pictures I have put on this page are from different areas around Bali.
I must admit I was surprised at how cheap they Balinese people sell their paintings for. To me they often seem like the kind of paintings you might expect to see in an art gallery. One thing that is certain no matter where I go in Bali, I always am intrigued by the talent and styles of the paintings I see around the island.
