The squirrels at Nusa Dua beach was a pleasant surprise for me when I first saw them. I love animals so for me it was nice being able to hand feed the squirrels while laying back on a sunbed at Nusa Dua Beach. The squirrels are surprisingly tame and they will literally come right down from the high tree tops and allow people to hand feed them.
Some squirrels will even allow you to gently scratch them as they are eating right from your hand. A few times when I was sunbathing on Nusa Dua beach, they approached me for a bit of a snack and actually sat there next to me. Having a snack with the squirrels while sunbathing on the beach is not something I had experienced before.
On this particular day, this was the first squirrel at Nusa Dua beach that I saw high up in the trees. Here he is looking down at all the people below hoping to get some attention and a bit of a feed.
They are popular among the tourists and many people seem quite happy to give them attention and feed them. In this picture he notices people acknowledging him and starts to come down the tree.
In this photo he is almost at the same level as where I was standing when I took the picture and pretty much as close as what it appears. I didn't zoom in or anything when taking this photo and he was still very tame and calm.
He knows he is about to get a feed so he leans out ready to be hand fed. The squirrels at Nusa Dua are obviously used to attention and people hand feeding them because they clearly know the routine very well. As soon as someone looks at them in the trees and holds out food in their hand, they usually will come down and be happily fed by everyone.
Here he is being hand fed and enjoying a nice little meal. The squirrels at Nusa Dua beach really are very cute and I'm always happy to give them attention and let them join me for a snack.
When I took this photo I was laying back on the sunbeds enjoying the beautiful ocean views while having some chips. This little guy was up in the trees watching me. So I acknowledged him by holding my hand out with a few chips indicating that he can share some with me. After this gesture, he seemed to know I was offering him some chips and he wondered down from the treetop to join me.
He was quite curious about the camera when I was taking pictures of him. In this picture he was right up close looking right into the camera as I took the picture.
I first let him eat some chips from my hand and then I put a few crumbs down on the sunbed next to me. He then very comfortably sat down next to me having some chips on the sunbed. The squirrels at Nusa Dua really are very cute.
Here he is still snacking on the chips I left for him while I was sitting right next to him. Sometimes they will take the food given to them and wonder back up the treetops to eat it up there. This squirrel was quite happy to sit with me.
After I wondered down to the water and came back to the sunbeds, I found he was still there having his snack. I left him quite a few chips to snack on so he was there for a little while.
I think the squirrels at Nusa Dua beach give this place some additional character. I hadn't ever seen squirrels this close up before coming here let alone hand feeding them.
They seem to be around everywhere because there are lots of trees around Nusa Dua. They are also very popular among the tourists because many people are often taking pictures and feeding them.
The good thing about the squirrels at Nusa Dua is they aren't pests and they don't bother people. They only come to people when they know they are welcome.
If people acknowledge them by looking at them and offering food, they will then be happy to come down and have a snack. Whereas if people don't pay attention to them usually they won't come down.
Personally I always like them coming for a visit and having a snack with me and most people seem to feel the same.
